Since
the inception of the SA ePublications Service, we have frequently
been asked the following important questions about subscribing to
the service:
Questions regarding subscription
Q:How is the cost of the SA ePublications service determined?
A: The
annual SA ePublications subscription fee is calculated according
to the number of online publications your institution already subscribes
to in hard copy, and of which the holdings information is updated on WorldCat.
Alternatively, request a confirmation of journal subscriptions form from Marsha Jooste at marsha@sabinet.co.za or +27 (0)12 663 3543. Once Marsha receives the completed
form from you, she will contact you with a customised quotation.
The annual SA ePublications subscription
fee is discounted substantially if your institution already subscribes
to Sabinet Online's SA Citations service. We believe that this
will contribute towards making the SA ePublications service
affordable, and indeed, good value for your institution.
Q:How will the annual subscription fee increase in future?
A: Since
the SA ePublications subscription fee is based on the actual
cost of subscribing to the individual publications that are available
via the service, the subscription fee will increase annually as
more publications are added, and as publishers increase their annual
subscription fees. The current SA ePublications subscription
fee is based on the existing number of publications that are available
via the service, but will obviously increase annually as we add
more publications.
Q:What about copyright?
A: Since
Sabinet Online does not own the intellectual property rights to the
publications in its SA ePublications service, the same arrangements as for printed materials are applicable.
According to the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 the photocopying or reproduction
of the published material beyond fair use must to be clarified with
the individual publishers of the materials.
Q: What about access to the service?
A: The
SA ePublications service is accessible via the WWW, with users
simply downloading the Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge from the
Internet to enable them to read the full-text PDFs. Authentication
can be arranged either through the issuing of authorization codes
or by means of "IP authorization".
Q: How much will it cost my institution to subscribe?
A:
Please request a confirmation of journal subscriptions form from Marsha Jooste at marsha@sabinet.co.za or +27 (0)12 663 3543. Once Marsha receives the completed form from you, she will contact you with a customised quotation.
Q: What value does the service add to my library?
A: This
is the first service that brings together, soon after publication,
the tables of contents, abstracted records, and full-text documents
of many journals published in South Africa in a single user-friendly
service. The service enables library staff and library users alike
to easily locate, then display and print full-text documents from
their desktops.
